Computing Optimal Schedules for Landing Aircraft
نویسنده
چکیده
In this paper we describe two approaches for solving the problem of scheduling aircraft landing times. In this problem, the air tra c controller must compute a landing time for each aircraft in the horizon, and must attempt to minimise costs whilst observing a number of hard constraints. The costs are associated with aircraft landing times varying from the preferred landing time. The hard constraints are concerned with preventing aircraft from landing within a prescribed minimum time of each other. Given a certain number of aircraft within the air tra c controllers' horizon at a certain point in time, we develop a heuristic for the problem using a genetic algorithm (GA).We also formulate this problem as a mixed integer program (MIP) and develop a branch and bound algorithm for its solution. We compare the quality of the two solutions obtained through computational tests performed on a wide range of problems.

Automatic Landing Guidance Systems and Design of an Optimal Landing Control System
Guidance and control of aircraft in the landing phase imposes extra pilot work loads, hence application of automatic landing control systems is of great importance. In this study automatic landing control systems are introduced and an optimal landing control system is designed. The control system performance criteria are based on minimum control effort. The designed system is simulated for a tr...
متن کاملA dynamic programming approach for the aircraft landing problem with aircraft classes
The capacity of a runway system represents a bottleneck at many international airports. The current practice at airports is to land approaching aircraft on a first-come, first-served basis. An active rescheduling of aircraft landing times increases runway capacity or reduces delays. The problem of finding an optimal schedule for aircraft landings is referred to as the “aircraft landing problem”...

متن کاملA Model for Runway Landing Flow and Capacity with Risk and Cost Benefit Factors
As the demand for the civil aviation has been growing for decades and the system becoming increasingly complex, the use of systems engineering and operations research tools have shown to be of further use in managing this system. In this study, we apply such tools in managing landing operations on runways (as the bottleneck and highly valuable resources of air transportation networks) to handle...
